type='text'>The Dindi Getaway

Its September again and time for annual get-together. This year we have decided to explore the beauty of Konaseema greenery. So, we have picked up the APTDC resorts at Dindi for our stay. APTDC has been a great travel partner for us with a very few occassional hiccups, mostly at the restaurant departments. This particular resort at Dindi was an exception with a very beautiful restaurant and rooms. The resort is located on the banks of river Godavari and very picturesque. The excellent view of the coconut trees on the other side of the river was a scene to be remembered. The landscape was so dense with the coconut trees, that we wanted to visit the other side. We only came to know later that the resort we are staying at is in an equally dense landscape. The other side of the vally is always greener."

Dindi is located in the East Godavari district and is 9kms and 16 kms in distance from Razole and Palkollu respectively. Razole is the nearest bus station and Palakollu is the nearest Railway station. The resort caters both the district's locals as an excellent weekend getaway. The swimming pool was decent enough for us to spend a couple of hours a day throughout the vacation and it was very relaxing.

I was the only bachelor in the whole group and all my friends are married and came along with their respective better halves. The very good thing that happened during the trip is that all the ladies gelled up with each other and everyone is comfortable in each other's company. This is very important as we are looking forward for many of such vacations in the future. The group was a mixture of all sorts of talents. The only downside is that two of my pals couldn't make it to this trip due to their work and the absense was felt almost at every moment. We were blessed to have a darshan of Lord Shiva at Draksharamam. The temple is one of the three Jyotirlingas in Andhra Pradesh, due to which the state got its name as Trilingadesha. Also, we had lunch at Subbayya hotel at Kakinada that day. The hospitality of the staff while serving the food is definitely worth a revisit to this eatery.

There is a canal that flows across the river Godavari at P.Gannavaram. A bridge was constructed for the vehicles to cross the river and below the vehicle movement zone, there goes a canal along with the bridge. The purpose of this is to make sure that the canal waters are not going into the river and are supplied for irrigation, on both sides of the river. The bridge was designed and constructed by Sir. Arthur Cotton, under the British raj. He is the same person who constructed a dam on the Godavari at Dhavaleswaram, near Rajamundry. No wonder, he is receiving poojas in temples across the Godavari districts for his contribution to irrigation and greenery in the region.

The trip was a great time for us to understand each other better and rejuvenate ourselves for the next one year. Hoping that the missing pals will join next year. Also, prospect of the addition of kids is quite exciting.

Yet another unforgettable week-end!!

Last five days of my life have been a real roller coaster of emotions. I experienced all the basic emotions like Joy, Trust, Fear, Surprise, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Anticipation through out this period. I met the daughter of my friend who is just 20 days older, a bride, entering her new life, a 90 year old lady who is en-route to a temple, albeit her age and sickness, each one imparting a different kind of respect towards human life.

Man is a social animal and when the fear of society is taken off from that very man, he becomes a mere animal. There remains no difference between the thinking man and thoughtless dog or a pig. An incident that I experienced is so un-humanly that I was left in complete disgust towards the person who committed it. Very unfortunately, this man is a friend of mine with whom, I need to maintain the relationship for life.

On a very different occasion and another friend in the scene, I felt trust in the relationship solidified.

Overall, we are what we think. I know that I need to move forward remembering the incidents that impart positive energy to my thinking process and leave those, which will take me down. Thanks to my friends and well wishers who bestowed me with these emotions which will shape my personality.

Birthday Trip

I am not a spiritual guy by any standards. However, there has to be a force that is governing us. Religion is one name that we give to this unknown force and whenever we need help in matters that are out of our reach, we seek it from the religion.

I entered the third decade of my life. I wanted this birthday to be extra special and decided to visit <a href="http://wikitravel.org/en/Tirupati" target=_blank">Tirupati to get the blessings of Lord Venkatesha. I have booked the accommodation and the Darshan three months in advance and failed to book the travel. So, started to Tirupati by bus. The travel took almost 16 hours and was uneventful.

Traveling alone has its own benefits: getting some quality time to think and evaluate about one's own life is one of them. I got ample time for this. I trekked up the hill on foot and it took 4 hours to reach the top. It was an awesome feeling to be in the temple town of Tirumala after 3 years. The Ramayan that played on the local radio puts anyone's heart at peace. It being the Brahmotsava's, the town is full of pilgrims and very busy.

After checking into the accommodation, that I booked earlier, I went for Darshan and was pleased to see the arrangements made by the Temple authorities for the pilgrims who walked to the abode. They gave me some basic meal to eat in the queue. This hospitality was not expected a couple of years back. I waited for 4 hours in the queue to see the almighty and the Darshan lasted less than 20 seconds. But all the pain was worth.

After Darshan, I went to dinner and witnessed a strange phenomenon. I saw at least a dozen of newly weds enjoying their dinner. Where on Earth would I get such a glimpse?

The next day, it being my birthday, went to Darshan again and it took only an hour to meet the God.

I had to kill the whole day in Tirupati as my return journey is scheduled in the late evening. Tirupati is a small town. It doesn't have decent movie theaters or better shopping malls. If Lord Venkatesa miraculously vanish some day from his shrine, Tirupati will hold no importance whatsoever.

I managed to reach Kakinada, my home town, by next morning and spent some quality time with my family. Started to Vizag that evening and back to my routine, as usual...

Importance of Smiley in the informal communication.

I was chatting to two of my very close friends today and understood the importance of Smileys in the electronic communication.

There is a research that states 70% of communication in humans is Non-verbal. The facial expressions and body language comprise of this non verbal communication and the words that we speak form the verbal communication.

Some words are very harsh in nature, but sometimes used in teasing, when coupled with smile. But, in case of e-communication, the other party can not see our expressions. Smileys are one great innovation in e-communication.

Currently, I am in so much love with the emoticons. ;)

India, The World Champions

INDIA - A land of great diversity.

But, yesterday evening, the whole nation was united for a single cause. There was only one religion called Cricket and the biggest festival, the 2011 Cricket World Cup final, was in full swing. It was the clash between India's demigods and Sri Lankan lions. The Indians in the country and abroad were glued to the television sets in support to their team. Every Indian wished only one thing, a win in the finals and becoming the world champions. The Indian team reached the finals thrashing titans like Australia and Pakistan on their way.

Indian team was the favorite to lift the cup even before the start of the series. People were anticipating a fairytale end for Sachin Tendulkar, the man with virtually every record under his name, except a World cup victory. At the age of 38, this could be practically Sachin’s last World Cup and he wishes to win this one very badly. The sentiment is so strong that the team said that it will win the cup just for this man.

And as the history unfolded before the millions of spectators, India fought superbly and became the champions. Gambhir displayed the greatest nerve under pressure and Dhoni matched shot to shot with him. The world cup feather was added to Sachin’s cap in style. It was a very emotional moment for whole team.

The whole nation went into a kind of mass hysteria once India won the cup. Every city witnessed its masses on the streets dancing and singing. Every individual had his own way of expressing their happiness. Some danced to a bollywood number while some were emotionally singing the national anthem. The tri-color was everywhere. The traffic jams became a norm and yet the usually restless souls never complained.

The people of India are well known for their impatience and differences. Yet, a sporting event can put all those differences aside. It was a great feeling to see your favorite team winning, but witnessing the greatest party with no limitations whatsoever is a different thing altogether.

This happens only in India…

Destruction of statues on Tank Bund, Hyderabad.

Frankly speaking, there are no words to express my feelings. And all the planning lead us promptly to the awaited day and I traveled to Bapatla from Vizag to join rest of the guys who came from Secunderabad.

Bapatla is a small town in Guntur district. The town is having many schools and colleges. The Agricultural College is a beauty in itself with a huge campus. I took an auto-rickshaw to reach Suryalanka beach, which is the most common and convenient mode of transport in the town.

The resort on the Suryalanka beach is maintained by APTDC (Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation) and it is very bad in terms of the infrastructure. The AC's won't work sometimes and the geysers are in competition as well. The restaurant is pathetic. It doesn't offer anything other than puri-bhaji for breakfast and chicken is the only non-vegetarian food for lunch and dinner. Beach resort without sea food is quite something. So we have to travel to the town which is 10kms for having a decent meal. Ghumaghumalu is a fair deal with variety.

If I need to say some positives about the resort, then I need to say that the resort is located right on the beach with excellent view from the cottage. Also, the route that you take to reach the resort from Bapatla is scenic.

We visited Vijayawada and Amaravati sparing a day out of our stay for 4 days. We had excellent darshan at both the abodes. Amaravati is a Shiva temple and Vijayawada is His wife, Parvathi's. We all definitely must have had good past lives to have a great darshan.

One exciting thing in the journey was we had to cross a flowing river due to the recent floods on foot to reach Amaravati. It was scary and fun at the same time. Keeping one another lively through jokes and teases made it easier to venture into something that crazy. Ganga, Shiva's second wife gave us a darshan in this way, I guess.

On the whole, the trip was a great experience and we all are sure to cherish those moments for a life time. Our friendship grew stronger without any doubt by spending those 4 days together and I am looking forward for another such nice time next September.

My Puri Trip.

This weekend, I had a chance to visit Puri and Bhubaneswar as part of my solo weekend getaway. Bhubaneswar is a small city and the first impression is that it has a very small Railway station with only four platforms to serve. Remember that this is the capital city of Orissa.

I took a train from Vizag at 12:10 AM and reached Bhubaneswar at 07:30 AM. I had 4 hours with me before my next train to Puri. I used this time to loiter around on the roads. One thing that caught my attention was that Litchis are being sold in heaps along the roadsides. Needless to say, that I filled my tummy with them. I also tasted Chanapuda which is a odissi sweet made of milk, cashew and sugar. This is not so great and happily can be missed.

I landed in Puri at around noon which is one hour ride on train from Bhubaneswar. I checked into Puri Hotel on the beach road in Swargadwara area. This area is the most happening part of the town with all the shops and stuff like that. The area is filled with countless number of sweet shops which very strangely prepare only one variety : Khaja. I somehow couldn't digest this fact of being robbed off with local sweets. But, the streets are also filled with stalls serving sea food. I got the biggest prawn I ever saw in my life for a mere 100 rupees. Upon picking the prawns from the lot, that is cut in front of us and cooked. I had 2 big prawns and a pamphret fish for dinner. Its like heaven for sea food. These stalls are right on the beach road beside Monginis cake shop, if you ever visit Puri.

Talking about heaven, Puri is the abode of Lord Jagannath and I visited the Lord as well. Believe me, this is the most commercial temple I have ever seen. Right from the entry till you leave the temple premises, people try to rob you in the name of God. Apart from that the temple is a beauty. It stands royally at 180 feet tall. And at the summit, there is a flag which will be changed everyday. There are four families under the temple payrolls which are trained to go to the top and change the flag. There are no steps and person going to the top will actually crawl up on the temple walls. You can visit the temple between 6 and 7 in the evening to witness this spectacle.

The sea in Puri is very rough. It best suits for surfing. But for others like me, the sea is very dangerous as the tides are very high. There is help available from the locals if you want to go into the sea though. And there are life guards watching over the sea for any mishaps. Baywatch sans babes and boobs...

The next morning, I visited Sun temple in Konark. This is roughly 40kms from Puri. The temple is an abode to Sun God and showcases the heights of Odissi architecture. The temple is in the shape of a chariot and is pulled by seven horses and the sanctum is the house of Sun God. Unfortunately, the temple is showing signs of aging and to save it, the government of India has filled the Sanctum with Stone to support the structure from collapsing inwards. The exterior is a majesty in itself.

From, Konark I came back to Bhubaneswar and visited the famous Lingaraj temple. This is a Shiva temple and it is also a pinnacle showcasing the Odissi architecture. The part of the town in which the temple is located is not developed much, making Bhubaneswar a perfect blend of culture and cosmopolis.

I took train to Vizag the next morning and back to my routine life...

Absurdity at its height.

Imagine you are a captured by the American authorities for masterminding a terror plot in India and you plea for safety.

The US government accepted the plea of David Coleman Headley who was the mastermind behind 26/11 attacks in Mumbai.

New York Times article

Courtesy: Sumith's Tweet

My tastes...

I hated Shah Rukh Khan for his acting all through my life. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna just didn't work for me. We live in a society which is bound by a set of rules called Law. Try to imagine what the world would be like if there is no law to govern! Man will become animal. His thirst for blood grows. Absolute power to an individual will bring out the animalistic cruelty and sexual perversion.

Caligula is a film that deals with such absolute power and its by-products, that are bestowed on the infamous Roman Ceaser. Malcolm McDowell did a wonderful job in enacting the maniacal role. All the other actors are merely supporting his performance. Peter O'Toole was great in his role. He was very expressive as a dying tyrant who doesn't trust his heir to the throne. His character is also very pervasive and Toole splendidly performed a s one. Helen Mirren has nothing much to do than standing as an eye candy wife of Caligula.

The movie is filled with nudity and gore. Yet, you will not remember the movie as a softcore or you wouldn't be aroused by the content. Director Tinto Brass made sure that the tone was maintained throughout. Watch Caligula for the pure passion of a bunch of men to tell a shocking story.

In my opinion, this is one of the finest movies I have ever seen. Try this movie, if you are OK with the nudity and gore.

Movies

Lately, I saw Aarya-2, a telugu film starring Allu Arjun and Kajal Agarwal. The movie was bad and yet again, I had struggle discussing the movie with some of my film buff friends, who think that this is good and much entertaining.

The term ‘ Entertainment’ has taken a different shape in the telugu film industry altogether these days. If any conversation or situation brings the slightest possible smile on the face, it is being called entertainment. The broader the smile, the bigger is the entertainment. A protagonist who can marry a girl to hand over her to his friend to keep up the friendship is quite something. And yet, it is entertainment to the people. It is us, the viewers whose values have degraded. We are amused by the character of such heroes.

There were days, when people used to make films like Shankarabharanam. Also films like ‘ Miss Pamela’ starring Silk Smitha hit the screens, but everyone knows which one is made of what material and especially for whom? Pathetically, the standards went too low, that the audience is unable to see the difference of the material anymore! Yet, we believe that quality of the art is increasing just like the quality of infrastructure.

Film making is just like any other art. In fact greater than all the arts, as it is a cumulative product of all the arts. But, how good are today’s films to the society? Had a character like Shah Rukh's in Darr not there, the youth probably won't be so possessive about it's so called lovers. The incident at Virginia Tech University was inspired by a Korean film called Oldboy. I personally know a 26 year old man who started smoking after watching Mahesh babu enjoying a puff in the movie Okkadu. And still movie analysts praise these products as art. If someone questions the impact on the society, they are eventually called orthodox and low in taste.

Personally, I am not against the themes of the above mentioned films. But there has to be some kind of differentiation that has to be pumped into the character. For example, the Joker from The Dark Knight is culmination of evil and it was portrayed so. The dialogue refers to this fact throughout the film. This leaves a bad taste towards the character in one's mind and it is less likely that we accept the deeds and less likely to follow them in real life. But, how good are films with Shah Rukh Khan playing a baddie when he is a hero personified to crores of people around the globe?

We give so much importance to various factors like taste, ambiance, hospitality etc., when we visit a restaurant. If any of the above factors fail to impress, we vow to ourselves not to return to the restaurant ever again. If such importance is given exercising our choice for food for the body, what should be the importance that has to be given to the food for thought? One has to understand the impact of a film on the society before praising it and giving it a thumbs up. This will change the overview of the creators of so called art and helps increasing the quality of a dying art.

Sangham Saranam Gachami

Thunderbird

These days I am using all open source software.. I switched to Mozilla thunderbird and it is surely a better Email client. Compared to Outlook, it is a small software (In respect to size of the software) and handles all the functionality offered by Outlook. Only catch is you need to have some Add-ons installed to the base software.

When coupled with IMAP, thunderbird is just great.. But, it has its drawbacks as well and can be addressed with slight tweaks to the settings. I will list down some tweaks and settings to the basic installation that makes thunderbird a competition to MS Outlook.

Calender support

Thunderbird doesn't have a calender by default. So, it can not handle Appointments and schedules by default. To overcome this, we have to install an add-on called Lightning. This is also developed by Mozilla corporation and it integrates into thunderbird very well.

Minimize to tray

Most of the people use outlook in a minimized status to save space on their taskbar. Thunderbird can achieve this by installing an add-on called Minimize to tray.

Cursor position in Reply messages

Thunderbird adds the previous mail content as a quote and the cursor is positioned at the bottom when replying any mail. This is bit uneasy as we have to always press "Ctrl + Home" to go to the start of the mail before writing anything. To tweak this, follow the steps mentioned below:
1. In Thunderbird: Go to "Edit > Account Settings" *
2. Select "Composition & Addressing" for the account in question
3. Make sure the "Automatically quote the original message when replying" checkbox is checked.
4. In the drop-down box below that, select the option "start my reply above the quote"

* On Windows, the option can be found in: Tools -> Account Settings.

Culture Unplugged Video

I just finished watching this short film. This makes it 8th time in life. As usual the wounds are good enough to make me sleep on one side on the bed. Total left side of the body got rashes. But nothing to worry.

But you know what, this accident made me feel light at heart. I am bored of life that is quite routine all the time. Those wounds just reminded me how careless we used to be in our primes. Not that I am enjoying the burning sensation physically, but actually enjoying it from inside. I am sure many of you will feel that I am not making any sense, but stop for a minute to remember all those things we cherish.

Meeting Vishnu for the first time in life; actually happened because of wounds due to my first accident off a bike. He chanced to brush off my wounds in a queue to submit the application forms for BCA entrance. I hated him at that point of time and was shocked to see him as a classmate when I joined Sardar Patel College. And now, he is a friend of mine for life.

Vishnu and I fell under the Elephantia bridge returning from Sangeet off his LML Vespa.

The day I rushed to "Satya" Tutions with box of sweets on the occasion of my sister's engagement. Ram driving my kinetic 'straight handled'.(Biggest of my list till date)

Ram and me falling off my Suzuki Fiero on the Tank Bund and going with all bloody clothes to see off mommy to Australia.

My bandages on both hands after an accident on the day of our 1st family lunch.(They resembled a boxer's inner gloves)

Life is too small and try enjoying it every bit. This is a cool tool from Google, but with lot many drawbacks. The much awaited invisible mode is available along with smileys, integration to google calenders and orkut.

But the drawbacks are really major things like lack of file transfer feature and a separate window for every individual chat. This makes this tool unusable in an Office environment as an internal communication tool. All the chats appear as tabs in the main window itself rather than a new window. If you have a habit of closing the main window, to save space on your task bar, the icon in the system tray blinks whenever a new chat message arrives. This might not catch your attention always and there is a chance of losing the whole point of communication itself. Unfortunately, I close the main window. So, this Labs Edition is unusable for me.

To download the Google Talk, Labs Edition, visit here.

For detailed differences between the regular Gtalk and Labs edition, visit here.

Life

I had one of the sad weekends in recent times last week. It is very hard to earn both of them back any time in near future.

From a layman's perspective, what I understood is that Ramalingaraju inflated the balance sheets of the company to wrongly portray that the company is in profit making and subsequently resulting in high share values and investments from the public. This is all done to evade the shame of accepting that the 4th largest Indian IT firm is in losses and on the brink of closing down.

Also, Ramalingaraju's sons started another company named Maytas and Satyam tried to acquire that company in 2008. This eventually led the government to probe into the financial dealings of Satyam.

Whatever the fate is for Mr. Raju, Indian IT sector itself faced a humiliation with this incident. Even the mightiest of the snake is killed by simple ants when they are united.

Indian Independence struggle almost followed this pattern throughout. The Portugal sailor Vasco da gama discovered sea route to India in the 15th century and ever since trade with India is a hot property in international trade unions because of its rich produces like silk and spices. The English, Dutch and other trading nations colonized India and ruled us for various reasons of commercial profits. British East India Company entered India in the year 1617 and made a strong foothold and thus allowing the English queen to go on to rule India for almost 200 years till 15th August 1947.

In 1617, British East India Company came to India and attained permission for trade from the Mughal emperor Jahangir. Since then, the company deployed "Divide & Rule" policy to turn the local rulers to turn against one another. The victory of Robert Clive against the Nawab of Bengal at the battle of Plassey in 1757 ensured commercial as well as military power in India for the company. On behalf of the queen, the company started to interfere in the politics of India. Also, the English treasury began to grow due to the exports of tea and sugar from the sub-continent. The farmers were forced to cultivate tea and they were even taken to Jamaican Islands to cultivate these crops. Thus, the West-Indies is almost all filled with Hindus whose origins are from India. Huge taxes are being levied on farmers and no farmers should keep a stock of the crop. This forced the farmers to sell the crop to the company and eventually resulted in a drought in 1770. Indians slowly but surely started to feel the pain but never thought of a revolution against East India Company till 1857.

As they say millions of drops come together to make an ocean, many reasons forced Indians for a revolution against the company. Firstly, Lord Dalhousie devised the Doctrine of Lapse, according to which any princely state or territory under the direct influence of the East India Company without a king or a direct competent heir will be annexed into the British raj. Rani of Jhansi revolted against the company's rule in protest to the doctrine. Secondly, the introduction of Enfield Pattern 1853 Rifle Musket(P53 Enfield) saw the dissatisfaction of the soldiers of Indian origin. The cartridges for this rifle are required to cut open with the mouth for loading. The cartridges are greased with either lard(pork fat), which according to Muslims is unclean, or tallow(beef fat), which according to the Hindus is very sacred. Ultimately, these reasons resulted in a mutiny against the Company's rule. This mutiny is known as India's first war of independence. Eventually the queen also was dissatisfied with the events and she decided to take direct control over India by dissolving the East India Company. India came under the rule of the crown in 1858.

Indian National Congress (INC) was found in 1885 by Umesh Chandra Banerjee, Surendranath Banerjee, Man Mohan Ghosh, Allan Octavian Hume, William Wedderburn, Dadabhai Naoroji and Dinshaw Wacha. This political party was instrumental in attaining independence to India. Mahatma Gandhi introduced the greatest weapons called Satyagraha and Non-voilence to the Indians in this era. India is the only country in the world till date which got independence without ever firing a single bullet.

British Government faced a lot of protest from the INC for independence. The huge popularity of Gandhiji was the main problem for the British to control the general public. People used to follow Gandhiji in everything he did and British found it very difficult to keep all those men in the jails as they are filled in always. Gandhiji, himself was jailed a numerous times for his non cooperation to the British rule.

In 1942, Gandhiji started Quit India movement under which he asked every one to stop cooperation to the British in World War II. By that time British Government was already into losses for battling in the bloodiest war of Mankind till date. It was becoming difficult day by day to control the agitations in India for the queen in England. So, Queen declared independence to India on 15th August 1947.

Today, on the 60th anniversary of our Independence Day, let us all take a pledge of leading India to a better future. Government of India took many initiatives to develop the country till date like construction of dams, fortifying the nation across the borders to secure the nation from outside attacks etc,. Now, it is our responsibility to secure the future of India as an economic super-power. India has a lot of potential in terms of agricultural land and industrial firms being in tandem. If all the youth in India act in unison with determination, India will surely rise to the super power status.

But, before leaving India, the British Government devised its Divide and Rule once again by starting communal feelings in certain class of people. Because of this, Hindu-Muslim riots had started and British Government successfully divided India into two nations: Pakistan and Hindustan; based on religion. Indians were not ready for such a step but Gandhiji had given his consent for the partition. Had he not accepted this, and today India and Pakistan were united. The riots may have lasted for four months or a maximum of four years..but, now we are parted forever now. The partition is one mistake that has happened that can never be corrected. But the decision taken is on that day, based on those circumstances. We cannot judge these events as we are parted by 60 years in time.

The second thing that went wrong after getting independence is that no one ever thought about post independence India. Because of this it became very difficult for the Government to curb internal problems like corruption and crime. Today India is the third most corrupted country. It is our duty to free India from these problems if we want to be proud of the rich history we are blessed with.

Why the World needs Mozillla firefox?

Internet has evolved from a collection of simple HTML pages into a complex version which are manipulating huge databases every day. It has become an integral part of our daily life that we can spend a day or two without food but we cannot actually survive without checking our emails.

The one most important tool to navigate through this web is a web browser.

A web browser is a typical software application which enables a user to display and interact with text, images, videos, music and other information typically located on a Web page at a website on the World Wide Web or a local area network. The browsers navigate through the web by following links and opening the addresses called URLs. There are many browsers available in the market like Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, Epiphany and etc.

Mozilla Firefox was initially a sub-project of Mozilla Suite. Later, the suite was discontinued and Firefox became an individual entity. It is an open source project licensed under a tri license GPL/LGPL/MPL. As on date, it enjoys 19% of market share in the usage of web browsers world wide and stands in the second place only after Microsoft Internet Explorer. Though Internet Explorer is an inferior browser compared to Firefox, it holds the first place, thanks to its free integration into almost all Windows operating systems.

Firefox supports tabbed browsing, spell checker, find, bookmarking of web pages, and an integrated search system that uses the user's desired search engine. A huge number of third party add-ons are also readily available as the source code of the browser itself is open to everyone. Also, Firefox has an option to turn-off JavaScript if required. This is very helpful for the developer community. It also features a popup blocker which blocks the unwanted and annoying popups on web pages.

Firefox can run on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other Unix based operating systems. This way a Firefox user is never unprepared in the times of migration from one operating system to the other. By default most popular Linux flavours like Ubuntu, Red Hat, Suse come with Firefox. This way, it becomes very meaningful to browse the Internet with Firefox.

What is the point in using an opensource software without customising it according to our needs? Firefox is fully customisable according to individual preferences and this is unthinkable in Microsoft realm. Using about:config page, even a layman can change the browser behaviours according to his requirements. I promise you all, another article about customising Firefox as it is a different ball game all together.

Internet Explorer has also many features which are in Firefox. But, Firefox features tabbed browsing since its initial days and these are initial days of the same feature in Internet Explorer. The same case is with integrated search engines. Mozilla Firefox may not win the argument in a debate about the best browser around, but it is leaving no option for others except getting better to stay in the competition. It won the hearts of millions and serving billions by standing in a healthy opposition's shoes.

Ruthless ruler of our time..

George W Bush is the current president of the United States of America. He started his regime on January 20 2001. Since then the face of America changed a lot and unfortunately the change is for bad. As soon as Bush succeeded Bill Clinton, as the 43rd President, he resumed his father,George H W Bush's war on Iraq. This way, he wanted to make a military base of USA in Asia and wanted to control the oil prices.

With the resumption of the Gulf war, he placed the United States in direct line of attack of the Muslim community's hatred and wrath. Osama Bin Laden pledged revenge on the United States and he master planned the September 11 attacks. He used the Kamikaze style of attacks as modus operandi for these attacks. There were 2974 causalities in this incident, excluding the 19 hijackers, 246 on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,603 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. An additional 24 people remain listed as missing. All of the fatalities in the attacks were civilians except for 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Since the 9/11 attacks, Bush was under pressure from various international organizations against his war against terrorism. Albeit all of these things under his regeme, he invaded Iraq and Afghanistan under the pretext of the War against Terrorism. Though the United Nations declared that there are no bio-chemical weapons under the procession of Saddam Hussein, Bush invaded Iraq and captured him and eventually executed him.

Even American people are so pissed off with the rule of the government that they started looking for a change of rule. On January 20 2009, the regime of George W Bush will come to an end officially. People all over the world are looking forward for this day, as the most ruthless ruler of our time is going to complete his regime. May the world be bestowed with peace and prosperity from this date on...

Hero

We all know that the word Hero is used in English to describe a person who shows some extraordinary character/will/skill in doing things.

Hero (n):A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

But, the origin of this word is very interesting. A man named Herostratus wanted his name to remain forever in this world. The lust for fame made him burn the Temple of Artemis on July 21st 356BC. This temple was one of the Seven wonders of the ancient world. Herostratus was executed for this deed and was condemned to the legacy of obscurity by forbidding mention of his name under the penalty of death.

The evolution of the human civilization is so strange that we actually granted Herostratus's wish and made him eternal by deriving the word HERO from his name.

Heights of Testing

I found this funny video on another blog. One can not compare their ideologies as such.

Che was the greatest humanitarian who fought for the welfare of people and unification of South America. His weapon was brute force on those who posed a potential threat for his goals. The society he belonged to demands that force. people there might not understand the Satyagraha. By profession, Che was a doctor and he saved lives. But, to bring a change in the society, he has to change. Demand of the Day.

Gandhi was from a country which taught us love and compassion. As an Indian, he believed in non-violence and followed it through out his life. He is the only person who led a nation to independence without firing a single gunshot. But whatever he did after independence is ridiculous. The Hindu-Muslim riots that lead to the partition would have lasted for four months or a maximum of four years. But the partition left the sour taste even after this long time. May be India and Pakistan will fight till eternity. This is all because of one man's fault. He thought the riots can be put off by simply dividing the nation. I personally love Gandhi for is pre-independence efforts and hate him to the core for his post-independence efforts.

At the end of the day, we are not equipped with enough knowledge to take a side when talking about two great personalities of History. They did whatever they did and they are the only people who can justify their actions.

Love them, Hate them but can't ignore them.

Hyderabadi Biryani

What's the fun in talking about Hyderabad and its culture without the taste of Biryani. Biryani was brought to Hyderabad by the invading Mughal army of Aurangazeb under the command of Khaja Abid, the father of the first Nizam of Hyderabad. The time taken for the preparation of Biryani is less compared to that of traditional food like Rotis and /or Rice cooked in steam. This became an excuse to use Biryani as the food for the soldiers in times of war. The rich ingredients like all the masalas(Spices) and meats along with Basmati Rice cooked in Ghee were perfect for energizing the soldiers in comparatively less amount of time.

The Nizams of Hyderabad perfected the recipe with the spices available in South India, placing the Hyderabadi Biryani in the top of the list. Biryani made in Hyderabad is far better than its variants available through the corners of the world as it is more spicy and rich in taste.

Ingredients

• 1 kg: Meat
• 750 gm: Semi cooked rice
• Sautéed brown onions to taste
• 1 tbsp: Ginger garlic paste
• 1 tbsp: Red chilli paste
• 1 tbsp: Green chilli paste
• ½ tbsp: Cardamom powder
• 3-4 sticks:
• Cinnamon
• 1 tbsp: Cumin seeds
• 4-5: Cloves
• 2 tbsp: Lemon juice
• 250 gm: Curd
• 4 tbsp: Clarified butter
• A pinch: Mace
• Mint leaves to taste
• 1 tsp: Saffron
• ½ cup: Water
• 1 tbsp: Salt
• ½ cup: Oil

Preparation

Hyderabadi biryani is of two types, the Kacchi(raw) Biryani and the Pakki biryani. Kacchi biryani is prepared with raw meat, which is marinated in curd and then cooked along with the rice by sealing the handi (vessel) with a layer of dough, and is cooked on dum - steaming over coals. This is a challenging process as it requires meticulous attention to time and temperature to avoid overcooking or under-cooking the meat.

In Pakki biryani, the meat marinating time is shorter, and the meat is cooked before being layered with the rice and cooked in a dough-sealed vessel. In Pakki Yakhni (with cooked gravy), the ingredients are already cooked before baking. The gravy is redolent of mace, ittar and kewra. Saffron and cardamom are also used.
There is also a vegetarian version of the biryani, which is made from vegetables such as carrots, peas, cauliflower and potato.

Biryani is best served along with Mirchi Ka Salan and Raita. A soda like coke or Pepsi will add to the taste of Biryani.

Hyderabad features many restaurants which are famous all over the world. Some of them are Bawarchi, located at RTC ‘X’ roads, Paradise Hotel in Paradise circle, Secunderabad, Bahar in Bashirbagh. If you are looking for a late night Biryani, Al-hum-Dulillah in Mallepally is the place. If this theory is to be believed Humans become perfect parasites depending on Earth.

I don't know whether Earth is a living thing or not, but humans definitely have the qualities of a virus. We not only are using up the resources that are allocated for us, but also consuming the reserves of our future generations and making this planet non-livable. In search of money, man is inventing some very dangerous technologies which eventually are destroying the environment. From a simple electric shaver to a nuclear plant, today everything creates electro magnetic fields which are dangerous to the human himself. We are filling our environment with carbon monoxide(CO2) by the increasing usage of vehicles on the roads. Even a refrigerator or a television set emits carbo-floro gases which damage the ozone layer. If the cellular network can penetrate through the concrete walls, why can't it penetrate through the human tissue and create a cancer?? Yet, we all need those gadgets instead of the classical environment friendly tools just because they give us some extra time!!

I request everyone to please give it a thought and try to change your lifestyles as far as it allows you to do so and give a better life to our future generations.

Some basic definitions

Virus: A virus (from the Latin virus meaning "toxin" or "poison"), is a sub-microscopic infectious agent that is unable to grow or reproduce outside a host cell. Viruses infect cellular life forms and are grouped into animal, plant and bacterial types, according to the type of host infected.
Host: A host is an organism that harbors a virus or parasite, or a mutual or commensal symbiont, typically providing nourishment and shelter. In botany, a host plant is one that supplies food resources and substrate for certain insects or other fauna.

"We didn't inherit the planet from our ancestors, we are borrowing it from our children.."

Definitions Courtesy :Wikipedia

Firefox Download Day

Mozilla is launching its web browser Firefox 3 on June 17 2008. But, friends say that this is only a HOPE for next 3 months at least...

Going out to office drenched in rain and waiting a long time for getting an auto rickshaw is very tiring experience, believe me.

Presidential Pose

One picture talks a million words.

President Pratibha Patil poses with an AK-47 that is recovered from the militants in Jammu & Kashmir. Just before I sent them, he asked me to send Orchids instead of roses. I did the job and was amused why he didn't order roses. Did some research and found some amazing things about roses....

Roses and numbers

Every denomination of roses serves a unique meaning in itself. So if you are seeking to send roses with a message in mind, this list should help you make a decision:

1 Rose - Love at first sight; you are the one
2 Roses - Mutual feelings, especially if they are red in color speak of two people who are deeply in love and together form their own happy little world.
3 Roses - I love you
5 Roses - I love you very much
6 Roses - I love you & I miss you.
7 Roses - I'm infatuated with you
9 Roses - Together as long as we live
10 Roses - You are pretty
11 Roses - You're my treasured one. Believe me, the broker was a real pain in the ass..Later, shifted into a room that is much smaller and rented at a gigantic 10K(My house in Hyd is mere 9K). The area I live in is called ORLEM and is named after a church nearby...The area is fully flooded by Catholics Chics.

I have seen some films here. The theaters are much smaller compared to those we enjoy in Hyderabad. Khuda ke liye is the best of the lot that I have seen in Mumbai.

The atmosphere in Mumbai is quite different from that of Hyderabad. Lots and lots of humidity in the air..resulting in sweat. AC is a need here.

I also visited a DANCE BAR in the suburbs. Felt very bad.. All the girls dancing there were prostitutes and the bar provides rooms if we select a girl. Forgot to tell you, the classified section of TIMES in Mumbai contains the contact numbers of ESCORT SERVICES (Refined word for a brothel).

Coming to official stuff, I joined my organization as a Tester and will have to travel almost 2hrs in local train to reach office. Local trains need a special mention here. Whatever you guys heard about a local train in Mumbai is true to 1000%.

To be frank, living in Mumbai is an art in itself and I have to learn it quickly. There are many other great things that need a mention, but that might consume more time to read and you will feel like hitting me harder..

The real Terrorism..

Hyderabad has become the target of the International terrorists recently (Saturday, 25th August'07). There were a serial bomb blasts at the Lumbini Park and the famous "Gokul Chat" in Kothi. Also a series of bombs are diffused at various locations in the city by the police.

The point is what does one (terrorist) want to prove by claiming innocent lives. I must say that this is an act of cowardice. Only a barbarian can do such hideous tasks. But, why does in the name of heavens does political parties give this incident a different color altogether???

The opposition says that the "Congress government" failed miserably in protecting the city. BJP called for a bandh on Monday. These kind of reactions will give an undue advantage and a mental victory to those faceless terrorists. When will people understand that we have to be united in such situations to emerge victorious!!

The real terrorists are the politicians that we elect to rule us. Irony is everyone agrees with this statement, but do not work towards improving the system!!!

Yet, India is the largest democracy with a rich heritage.

Please don't make a political drama out of such incidents.

Adolf Hitler

"Adolf Hitler" was dead on this very day some sixty two years back. Yet, his presence is felt almost in every corner of the world today. What he has shown the world is the culmination of evil.

There were many people in the past who dreamt of ruling the world prior to Hitler. But they all lacked in some or the other point. Hitler struck the right chords by hitting the nail exactly. He used his oratory skills and created a confidence in the general German public. His main weapon was the "Supremacy of a particular race". Any human being in this world is prone to these weaknesses. Aryans were no different people.

Hitler rose from a tramp to the Supreme of Germany making his voice and talkative skills as the ultimate tools. I would say, Hitler would have become the personality of the century, if he used these skills for the development of the mankind. But, as they say, past is past.

I sincerely hope that this is the only day in modern day history which is marked as a festival which commemorates the death of someone...

May his soul rest in peace.

Teleportation

Hi all...

Have you ever wanted to be at a different place in the very next moment!!

Ever wanted to know how Gods in mythology traveled at the speed of thought!!

In today's world of science, every question is being answered whether we believe them or not. And biggest irony was that we all studied these concepts before we specialized in computers or management.

Does anyone remember the famous formula from Einstein, "E=m*c*c"(Read E equals to m c square). where E stands for Energy, m for mass and c is the speed of light.

According to simple science, Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only change forms.

So, what happens if the mass is converted to light energy and beamed to a different location at the speed of light and there again converted back to mass??

Viola!! the mass disappeared here and appeared there!! This will take only a fraction of second. because the speed of light is, again as we all studied ages back, some 3 lac kms/second.

So, theoretically, we can disappear here and appear before our loved ones in the United States, in 1/8 th of a second.

And practically, our scientists, recently (On October 4th 2006) successfully teleported atoms. A job which needs time and money and which returns glory and fame. But, in a cinematic way, I am not getting enough response from others as they are not aware of the "glory" they are gonna reap or they have no value for such feeling in life.

This is making me think that "You are not a person with what you do..You are one with what others do"... I feel like the work we do is more dependent on others than us primarily.

If you observe enough, there is no single successful person in this world. Always, there are doubles. In the morning I was listening to Rainbow-FM (a local radio) and one lady was talking about how she stole some mangoes from a farm with the help of a complete stranger, in her childhood of course...and later learning that the stranger helped her was actually the landlord of the farm. She sounded very happy remembering that sweet memory of hers..

And while in the British library, a couple of hours back, I became very nostalgic while I was skimming through Friends,a book on the ultra famous sitcom.
